. she's hot. the president. at the white house correspondents' dinner again. >> obama: i'm also hard at work on plans for the obama library and some have suggested that we put it in my birthplace but i would rather keep it in the united states. >> stephanie: she how he takes what they do and makes it funny. uh-oh. >> i'm guessing dennis miller isn't writing for him. >> obama: cnn has taken some knocks lately. the fact is i admire their commitment to cover all sides of the story, just in case one of them happens to be accurate. >> stephanie: oh! ouch! snap! >> no one laughed at the cnn table. >> stephanie: i'll probably be on cnn all week. i did not find that funny at all. >> neither did erin burnett. >> stephanie: okay. the president. >> stephanie: in california where the fund-raiser, having a nice time. i mention that pamela harris is the best looking attorney general in the country. as you might imagine i got trouble when i got back home. [ laughter ] who knew eric holder was so sensitive! >> they did that joke on mrs. colbert? i forget who it was. no. it was "saturday night live."

during the break. the white house announcing president obama will be meeting with reporters and taking questions from the brady pressroom at 10:15 this morning which means i have to get my butt out of here right after the show down to the white house get dressed first maybe. >> you have a tie bill? because you know, the president. >> bill: i live close by. i'll get a tie. >> don't shame us. >> bill: what is this all about? you think he has something to say about syria? >> that's certainly a possibility. this is really short notice. that could be the type of thing where -- >> bill: he's not coming in to chitchat. >> no. he's got something to say. >> as a former member of the white house. >> i don't think it is jason collins. >> i don't think they have a deal on the sequester. the only thing he has to talk about right now is syria. gotta be syria. >> bill: there will be a question about afghanistan. i'm sure. but he is doing this because he has something to tell us. all right. >> if he didn't want to answer questions about syria, he wouldn't be coming out today. >> bill: right right. no.

flexible president obama's red line in syria can be, kind of like a twizler. the white house has stepped back from an immediate course of action. the president said he needed more time to make his case. >> obama: i have to make sure i have the facts. and if we end up rushing to judgment without hard effective evidence, then we can find ourselves in the position where we can't mobilize the international community to support what we do. >> michael: getting more hard evidence night not be such a bad idea. anybody remember the phantom weapons of mass destruction george w. bush used to justify invading iraq? well joining me is who served as senior advisor to ambassador richard holbrooke, the special representative to afghanistan and pakistan. he is currently dean of the school of advanced international studies at johns hopkins university and is the author of the new book "the dispensable nation: american foreign policy in retreat". i even have a copy right here. welcome into "the war room," vali nasr. it does seem like a spectacularly good read given your experience. le

age is probably 50 knew what he was talking about. it's almost predominantly white that whole group. so it was not exactly the rap music audience. he also made a couple of other references that most people didn't understand. but overall, you know, obama -- the thing about obama is -- obviously somebody else writes the jokes. in fact i know that guy that wrote the jokes a comedy writer by the name of billy kimmel no relationship to jimmy kimmel and the jokes are written for him. but his timing and his delivery is pretty amazing. you know, he -- he has perfect comic timing and a lot of people said his comic timing was better than conan o'brien, and in the room it felt like it was better than conan o'brien. conan was reading all of his jokes in a pretty rapid-fire delivery. and while he was funny, he didn't get the belly laughs that the president did, but of course some of that a brown nosing and this is his audience. is hollywood and -- the washington press corps. you know this is a little tilted to the left you know? >> michael: yeah. it's interesting to talk abo

. this is "viewpoint." thank you so much for joining us this evening. president obama marked the first hundred days of his second term today with a white house news conference. with foreign policy specifically syria on top of the agenda, now at least 13 people were killed and 70 wounded today by car bombs in the capital of damascus in that country's bloody on-going civil war while at least one child was killed and several people wounded in what witnesses describe as a syrian government air strike on a refugee camp near the turkish border. meanwhile, the guardian reports syrian rebels and the government of bashar al-assad are blaming each other for that chemical weapons attack monday. president obama had previously said the assad government would cross a "red line" if it used chemical weapons. and he sort of repeated that today. >> obama: the use of chemical weapons would be a game changer. not simply for the united states but for the international community. >> john: but mr. obama also seemed in no hurry to move. >> obama: with a we now have is evidence that chemical weapons have been used inside o

time was higher by some measures than white turnout. you know, most of the pieces that wrote this up, ascribed it to simply to obama's presence on the ticket. obviously there's a lot of truth to that, you know. there is no denying that. but i thought that's not the only reason here. black people understand -- africans and latinos understand republicans, you know, voter suppression efforts in half the states in the country are aimed at them. >> stephanie: i love the way you say i invite conservatives to deceive themselves into thinking this is the case, because there is a black guy on the ticket. for all of this talk about a new g.o.p. out to steal minority hearts usually white people seem to forget the republican party is doing more to stop people from voting than george wallace ever did. >> more than george wallace ever did. you know, it is a more openly racist regime right now than it ever was under richard nixon and his infamous southern strategy. in those days, these things were done quietly. in back rooms and in code and so forth. but now the republican party, in many states in

, president obama scheduling at the last minute a conference with -- news conference with us white house reporters. nobody knew exactly why. the white house didn't say what the subject was. we all went down there expecting the president to come out and make a big announcement on syria which he did not do. in fact, he made a big announcement about nothing. i have never seen a presidential news conference, either watching on t.v. or there, myself where the president didn't start out with some remarks. they usually do to sort of set the direction for the news conference. if he didn't do it to make news most people speculated was because yesterday happened to be the 100th day of the president's second term. so it was a way of marking the 100 days without saying we are having a news conference to celebrate our 100 days. at any ration. we have some friends visiting us from france these days. after they came back from their touring around washington and i came back from my workday and they said, what was the scoop? what was the scoop? did you get a scoop today? there wa

[ laughter ] >> why don't you get a drink with mitch mcconnell. mcconnell has responded by tweeting out this photo of himself at a bar alone, and an empty chair. he should know better we all know potus is a beer guy. last september the white house put its recipes online. a cbs "new york times" poll shows a majority of americans, 62%, do not see the u.s. intervene in syria, and even as we learn more about the president's possible use of chemical weapons against his own people, fewer americans are paying attention to developments in syria than they were last month. only 47% think we have a responsibility to get involved while 48% think we do not. as fo

watching president obama win 71% of the latino vote in last year's election, many republicans believe in immigration bill has to pass if they're going to have a shot at winning the white house in 2016. even so, florida republican senator marco rubio knows that the bill he has helped device as part of the senate's gang of eight is far from a sure thing. rubio told the conservative mike gallagher show tuesday. >> the bill that is in place right now probably can't pass the house. it will have to be adjusted because people are suspicious about the willingness of the government to enforce the laws now and in theture. >> which didn't seem to bother white house press secretary jay carney. >> well, i haven't heard that assessment. i think as the president and others have made clear we're still in our oral stages here. we have a comprehensive immigration reform bill that was authored by republicans and democrats in the senate, and has significant bipartisan support but that process is still moving forward. >> john: in fact, the senate judiciary committee is supposed to start marking up the bil

on what president obama's increasingly graying hair might mean. >> number 5. >> your hair is so white it could be a member of your cabinet. >> ooh. >> the president obviously getting slammed for not having a more minority -- more minorities in his cabinet. he took care of that when he named mel watt head of fsha. the president had his turn at the podium. he did very, very well. and he talked about the little gaffe he made when he phrased california attorney general pamela harris for being the most beautiful attorney general in the country. >> number 4? >> i am not in california. i happen to mention pamela harris is the best-looking attorney general in the country. as you might imagine i got trouble when i got back home. who knew eric holder was so sensitive. >> bill: very funny the first time around. the president, cnn came in for quite a few knox in the evening, from conan o'brien, but it was president obama who got the first shot in at cnn. remember, this is after john king up in boston reported that they arrested the suspect in the bombing case when
